Probably the most memorable photo booth event..... yet

Any time we are asked to help participate in a fundraiser benefiting children it is an easy decision. In this case, we were asked to participate in the Anything for A Friend fundraiser benefiting Brandon Winger. Brandon is an energetic 13 year old boy with a very rare and aggressive form of cancer.

The event was extremely well organized and it didn't take very long to realize that an entire community was coming together to support Brandon. There were easily a hundred volunteers and about two thousand participants. The photo booth was located in a small room off to side of the main hall where many of the activities were taking place.

Brandon entered the photo booth room followed by a 20 person entourage of mostly girls. Brandon has one of those smiles you can't forget. Everyone was clamoring to get in the photo booth with Brandon. As I downloaded the photos that night, I noticed a common theme in the photo booth: kissing Brandon!

At the end of the event, everyone gathered outside for giant balloon launch. The sense of love and support was amazing. Over $40,000 was raised on Saturday night. The best thing about Anything for a friend, is that 100% of the proceeds raised go toward the person going through the difficult trial.

Blown away by the decorating at tonights wedding!

When we take the photo booth to receptions in LDS cultural halls, I don't expect to be blown away by the decorating. Tonight was different! You could not tell you were in a cultural hall. It was amazingly beautiful. I did not bring a camera or my flip video recorder. I wish I could post how amazing it was. So I will just have to show you some pictures I copied from their website.

Before

After

I think Derek & Michelle's reception tonight was even better than this one! If you are thinking about having your reception at a church, call Legacy Wedding and Events 801-541-1021. It was really so impressive that I had to come home and post something about it.

Photo Booth Deciding Factors: The Shout Out Video!

We are pleased to be one of two photo booths in Utah that offer the "shout out" video. After guests are done posing for pictures, a prompt appears on the touch screen asking if they would like to record a video for the bride & groom. The guests can then give congratulations, advice or act wacky for up to 30 seconds.

This weekend we will put the video feature on display at the Night of the Living Dead Race. Our booth will be transformed into the "secret zombie confessional chamber" and we will be vending 30 second zombie videos for the event, It will truly be a unique photo booth experience that would not be possible if we did not have the shout out video option.

Get more bang for your money and book one of the only photo booths that offer the shout out video!

Photo Booth Deciding Factors: It's About Time

A question we frequently get asked is:
Why do you offer three hours of service as part of your basic wedding package? My reception is only for two hours.

It is our goal to have the photo booth up and operating 30 minutes prior to the start of the reception. This gives the bride and groom time to use the photo booth before things get too crazy. It also lets the family and wedding party get some fun photos together before the bulk of the guests arrive. In most cases, the line at the photo booth is still going strong after the scheduled end time of the reception. In our experience, a typical two hour reception needs three hours of service.

On average, it takes guests around one minute  to use our booth. This time will vary a little between each photo booth company based on their printing speed and how things are configured. Most guests will use the photo booth in pairs or couples. If you are expecting 300 guests at your reception, you will need at least two and a half hours of photo booth time.

This is why we have priced our three hour service comparable to what most companies charge for two hours. Your special day is worth taking a little extra time!

Photo Booth Deciding Factors: Printing Speed

Most all photo booth rental services offer unlimited double prints for a set period of time. So what makes a companies 3 hour unlimited photo booth service different from another company offering the same service for the same amount of time?

Print Speed

There are many different photo booth printers that utilize different technologies on the market. One of the most common printing processes used in digital photo booths is called dye-sublimation. It is a good fit for photo booths because it prints fairly fast and the photos are  dry within a second of printing. Traditional photos and ink jet photos print slower and have a longer dry time.

At Catch Photo Booths, we use a Mitsubishi dye-sublimation printer. It prints and cuts double strip photos in 8 seconds. Some photo booths take much longer to print (over 30 seconds). It is also wise to rent a photo booth that automatically cuts the double photo strips.

Three hours of double prints in a very fast photo booth ensures that many more guests will get use the photo booth and the line will move at a fast pace.

Before you rent a photo booth service, ask the following questions:
How fast does booth print double strips?
Does it automatically cut the strips?

This will help you compare photo booth rental companies and will help you get the most bang for your buck.

When was the last time you looked at the guest book from your wedding?

We haven't looked at our guest book in many years. I know it is buried somewhere in our storage space. I suspect that many people don't look at their guest books after they send out thank you cards.

The Dilemma:
So much time and energy was wasted on putting together a roster of guests that attended the biggest event of your life, and you haven't even noticed it in years. Why you might ask? Because, after many years it just becomes a list of names.

So go dig up the guest book from your wedding, I want to ask you a few questions:
1. How many of those names do you even recognize?
2. Can you remember what they looked like?

I really would be interested to read some responses.

The Solution
Don't let your children, friends and love ones make the same mistake we all made. Rent our photo booth for them. The guests get two strips of pictures. They keep one; and then they post the other in a scrap book for the bride and groom. Now that name has some funny faces to go with it! Our booth also has a "shout out" video feature that lets the guests record a short video for the bride and groom. At the end of the event we put all of the images and videos on DVD for the happy couple.

So instead of a book of merely names, you can "catch" many memories that you can remember for years to come.

Catch Photo Booths is joining the Team Shannon Cause

Join us September 24th at Jensen Park in Syracuse as we help with Team Shannon fund raising effort. There will be a 5K, pancake breakfast, silent auction, kids corner and of course the most awesome photo booth in the world. All of the proceeds we raise from the photo booth will go to Shannon and her family. I can't imagine what it would be like to experience what they have been through the last few years. Please join us at this event.

Here is a little background about Shannon and her battle with leukemia.
At the age of eight, Shannon Johnson received the heartbreaking diagnosis of leukemia. Following many months of cancer treatments and extended hospital stays, Shannon went into remission. The good news was short lived however when just two years later she relapsed. This time Shannon would need chemo, total body radiation, and a bone marrow transplant. She is once again in remission! The hearta...che, stress and financial obligations have been a tremendous burden to her family. A year later, Shannon is still happily in remission but will need continued medical care for years to come. Because of this, family and friends of Shannon have come together to hold a fundraising event. This fundraiser will include a 5K race, live and silent auctions, a pancake breakfast, a kid’s corner and more!

I will post more information as the event gets closer. Here is her Facebook page:  http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Team-Shannon/158698660873077?sk=wall

Have you ever heard of Mendon Utah?

Its a little place West of Logan in Cache County. It has one major road, a few churches and a few hundred people that can totally get crazy in a photo booth. We went to Mendon for Lewis & Jessi's wedding party. Jessi was the winner of our inaugural Facebook contest.

The scenery was great and the action at the photo booth was non-stop. Our photo booth time stamps every image taken in the booth. There was not a single minute in a three hour span that there wasn't pictures being taken. Now that's pretty impressive.

Here are some of the memories we caught:
The photo booth knows no age boundaries
Its amazing what a good wig can do.
Not quite sure how to caption this one
Now thats alot of tongue for one picture.

A Photo Booth.... really?

We have heard this phrase a lot the past several weeks as we have told family and friends we are now in the photo booth rental business. The last few years photo booth rentals at weddings and other events have become increasingly popular. We have attended weddings in Utah that had photo booths and it added a nice touch to the receptions, but it didn't really leave a lasting impression.

We traveled to Northern California to attend the wedding of my cousin Ivy. It was a beautiful wedding that took place in amazing scenery. There was great food and drink, a live band and many other special things. But one simple thing brought an amazing amount of energy to the wedding. It was a photo booth.

Now this wasn't your average homemade; glorified shower curtain with a tripod photo booth. This was a real photo booth, equipped with all the bells and whistles. But it wasn't just the photo booth that made it special. It came with a prop box full of crazy hats and wigs. The creativity of the prop box mixed with the photo booth energized the party.

We wanted to "catch" the energy from that wedding in Northern California and bring it back to Utah.  So we built a photo booth rental company focused on that creative energy. Our photo booth takes pictures, but it also takes video and uploads pictures directly to Facebook. We also decided to always include the prop box at no extra charge.

Please follow this blog as we share experiences as we help people "catch" their memories.
